Initially conceived as a busking festival, the festival takes its name from the tradition of the audience showing their appreciation by putting money in the hat at the end of the show. 42 years later, we’re proud to maintain the hatting tradition, offering places to approximately 10 – 15 hatters at the festival.
Hatting applications for the 2017 festival are now closed.
Due to the number of applicants received we can only respond to those who are successful.
We also commission, present and produce outdoor and site-specific work from the fields of outdoor arts, theatre and dance which inspire and are inspired by the people, heritage and public spaces of Winchester. Our aim is to shine a light on the city, transforming the everyday into the extraordinary. If you have a touring show which you think might help us achieve this aim during the festival, or if you’re a professional artist or theatre maker who’d be excited to work with us in this way, we’d love to hear from you.
Outdoor theatre makers who wish to start a conversation with us please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with information about yourself and your work.
