Road closure 2024
In order for Hat Fair 2024 to take place safely, the following road closures will be in place over the weekend (Fri 05 – Sun 07 July 2024).
The Broadway and Town Centre Area Road Closures
Friday 5 July, 09:00-19:00 and Saturday 6 July, 08:00-10:00
- The Square: From Great Minster Street’s boundary with The Square to a point 79m north-west of its junction with Market Street (level with Boots the Chemist).
Friday 5 July, 13:00-13:15
- High Street: Temporary Obstruction for the Hat Fair Carnival. From Roundabout Junction with Romsey Road / Upper High Street to Junction with Jewry Street.
Friday 5 July, 13:20 - 13: 30
- Market Street: Very brief temporary traffic hold for the Hat Fair Carnival to pass 15m section of Market Street, from Junction with Market Lane to Junction with The Square.
Saturday 6 July, 06:00 – Sunday 7 July, 22:00
- The Broadway: In its entirety
- Colebrook Street: From Junction with Market Lane to Junction with The Broadway
Saturday 6 July, 10:00 – Sunday 7 July, 22:00
- Busket Lane: In its entirety
Parking Suspensions
- Saturday 6 July, 06:00 – Sunday 7 July, 21:00: Parking will be suspended within the road closure area on The Broadway.
- Saturday 6 July 08:00 – Sunday 7 July, 22:00: Suspension of the two parking spaces on Busket Lane allow for access to Busket Yard.
Businesses
Access for business deliveries and servicing to The Broadway will be permitted as follows:
- Saturday 6 July Before 08:30hrs and after 00:00hrs
- Sunday 7 July Before 08:30hrs and after 21:00hrs
Access will always be determined by crowd levels and the final decision to allow access will lie with the Event Manager.
Access for business deliveries and servicing to Market Lanes, Market Street and The Square will be maintained throughout via a signposted diversion route along Colebrook Street. Refer to plan below.
Buses
As the bus station falls within Saturday and Sunday’s Broadway road closure area, a bus lane will be created to allow buses a dedicated route into the bus station. Between 21:00 – 00:00 on Saturday 6 July: The bus lane will be removed and the road will be closed fully to allow for the evening event in The Broadway. Buses running during this time will access the bus station via the rear entrance on Friarsgate.
